Keeping a blog requires taking hundreds of photos. And my classmates love it to the point that they take pictures of me taking pictures!

Then photo selection and a little bit of research.

The final shot of a Starry ray (Amblyraja radiata) and a mermaid’s purse (egg case). It is by far the most abundant cartilaginous fish in Icelandic waters and really the only one that can be considered very common over the continental shelf. There was an old man picking them up off the beach by the dozens, perhaps as bait or for consumption in traditional ray dishes.
