The Power of Rocks and Waves

2 03 2013

This weekend I went on a walk alongthe old Óshlíð road. It is closed because of the new tunnel to Bolungarvik, but foot traffic is still possible. The road is “cancelled”… meaning it is left to the forces of nature. Thousands of rocks have come down and litter the road since it is not maintained.

The cross commemorates the worst tragedy along the road. A large rock hit bus that carried an entire soccer team in 1951, killing several teens.

The sea and wind have caused the collapse of half the road.
