I met Guðni Páll on a Sæfari kayaking trip this winter and now he has just launched his first major expedition in a solo attempt to circumnavigate Iceland in 60 days. This endeavor will raise money for Samhjálp, a christian, non-profit, charitable organization operating a treatment facility for alcoholics and drug abusers in Iceland.
Because of favorable weather, Guðni started two days earlier than expected. He will have to cover over 1,550 miles on his journey along the Icelandic coastline, including 250 miles of the Icelandic South Coast. Some days he will complete 25-30 miles. He started and will end with the South Coast, notorious for it’s huge swells and difficult landings – a serious challenge for all professional sea-kayakers. In addition to that, big open crossings in the north part of Iceland await Guðni. If he completes the journey, he will be the youngest to do so.
