Nearly Zero

23 07 2013

Maggi and I hiked the track from Bolungarvik to Hnifsdalur then to Isafjordur. It was a beautiful 20C and sunny day. The trek was about 5 hours and after the ascent, we were happy to find this lake with a view of Bolungarvik. The dam blocks the water at the top of the mountain and it is bottlenecked through a narrow pipe. As the river is forced through this opening, its flow quickens and turns the turbine at the bottom – producing electricity.

A lake full of freshly melted snow is inviting to sweaty hikers. And I did not regret the plunge!
